This book recounts a four years research journey in an effort to find bioactive
compounds with antimalarial activity isolated from three strains of Streptomyces
using mice as research models. At the end, this study managed to identify a
bioactive compound called Gancidin W, which successfully isolated from SUK 10
strain that has shown a very significant antimalarial activity. As a results, two
research articles from this study have been successfully published in international
journals. The publication of this book proves that the UKM Novel Antibiotic
Research Group (NAb) has a high commitment in the search for effective
alternative drugs extracted from a variety of endophytic strain of Streptomyces in an
effort to combat malaria. This research project is under the sponsorship and
patronage of several research grants such as FRGS and ERGS.
