Islam’s compatibility with science remains a prominent topic in public discourse. Thus, USIM’s model of Integration of Naqli and Aqli which comprises of four mustawa (levels); ayatization, comparison, adaptation and integration, is introduced and mapped into our curriculum structure to produce excellent generation and a knowledgeable society. This book presents the compilation of articles regarding the integration of revealed knowledge of Islam with rational science, specifically that of chemical science. The book consists of 10 chapters that can be divided into two main parts; Part I on Chemistry of Food and Health, and Part II on Chemical Technology. All chapters in this book are written to expose the understanding of Chemical Science theme which combine and integrate between science, Quran and Sunnah.
DR FARAH WAHIDA HARUN is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). She obtained her BSc (Hons) and MSc in Chemistry from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2002 and 2004 respectively. She started her career as an academician in 2005 before pursuing her study. She then received her PhD (Chemistry) from The University of Nottingham, England in 2010.
DR JULIANA JUMAL graduated with BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1993. She has a Diploma (Science Education) which she obtained from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1995. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience and had experienced working as a chemistry teacher with Kolej MARA Seremban and Tamhidi Centre, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). She completed her MSc as well as PhD(Chemistry) from UKM following her appointment as a lecturer at the Faculty of Science & Technology (FST), USIM in 2008. She is currently a Head of Industrial Chemical Technology Program, FST since 2014.
