Indian civilization and philosophical traditions are perhaps the oldest of all the cultures – Indologists have call it the ‘mother all cultures’. This is perhaps because Indian, since time immemorial, have been describing their culture as ‘human culture’ – Manava Dharma or Manava Sanskiti. Indian philosophical thought have offered us numerous paths, ideas and thoughts on how to deal with our existence, with other humans and other species, with the structures that govern our lives and our environment. These interaction are essentially guided by the principles of conflict management and resolution. Human life and endeavors are fundamentally conflictual. India that has inherited one of the most diverse societies, has to deal with more multifaceted issues than other societies. Consequently, conflict management has emerged as an important tool for human relations and social management – influenced significantly by Indian philosophy and cultures. The primary objective of this book is to present views regarding various facets of conflict resolution from the different traditions in Indian civilization and experience. This edited volume consists of 10 papers delivered in a series of seminars conducted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Chennai, India. The Indian traditions covered in this book are not limited to the Hindu faith but encompasses other religions and faith systems that originated from the Indian civilization. The book highlights discussions on philosophies such as Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, and the contributions of socio-religious thinkers like Swami Vivekananda, Gandhi and Sri Narayanaguru.
